Wal-Mart Stores rumored to be talking with DLF for retailing in India
World’s biggest retailing chain Wal-Mart Stores is rumored to be talking with Indian real estate giants DLF Group.
Business Standard reported that Wal-Mart is looking for a franchise deal to let them make an entry into the Indian market, which is the third-biggest economy in the Asian region.
DLF is already working on plans to develop more than 100 malls in 60 Indian cities over the next four to five years and Wal-Mart wants to have a dominating presence in these malls.
The report said that Wal-Mart wants to take care of the backend and other logistics while the properties would be owned and managed by DLF.
This could be an exciting opportunity for DLF to further enhance their presence in the Indian market considering they are nearing the launch of their planned $3-$3.5 billion initial public offer.

In the retrospect, this seems very sordid that Mittals won WalMart over Singhs. As an outside, I wonder that Singhs would be very much in the reckoning but in a different way or role because WalMart cannot afford to leave Singhs to pick up a competing chain retailer.
