Matsushita and NEC expected to enter a joint venture to develop mobile software solutions
Market rumors claim that Matsushita and NEC are due to announce a joint venture to develop mobile phone software. This is another development in their relationship, which started a while ago.
This joint venture is the latest one of its kind showing that it is becoming very hard to survive alone in the highly competitive mobile phone market.
The deal would bring together hundreds of Matsushita and NEC’s software development units under one roof. They would be working on a Linux-based operating systems and application software for the mobile platform.
This development would not change other things for the two companies, as they would maintain their separate factories and individual brands. They are still talking on further steps for cooperation but nothing is decided until now.
