Hewlett Packard to acquire Mercury Interactive for $4.5 billion

US based tech giants Hewlett Packard has confirmed that they plan to acquire Mercury Interactive. The deal is said to be worth around $4.5 billion and it would help HP to become one of the giants in the IT management software industry.

As per the information available, Hewlett Packard would be paying $52 per share for Mercury and the deal would see Mercury’s suite of application management software and services merged with HP’s OpenView family of network and IT service management software.

However, the deal would have a couple of conditions, which would have to be met. Hewlett Packard is targeting to complete this deal by the end of the current year. HP said in a statement that as per their agreement, Mercury will have to file an Annual Report on Form 10-K for fiscal year 2005 before the deal can be consummated.
